John Hunt Morgan Raid Caches (1863, status: unrecovered): In July 1863 Confederate cavalry under John Hunt Morgan rode 1,000+ miles through Indiana, Ohio, and West Virginia. They captured then dropped large amounts of currency, jewelry, and silver. Local oral history places caches along the entire route. Where: Morgan's Raid corridor — Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia. Land rules: Almost entirely private farmland. Strong landowner-permission culture.
