Lost Blue Bucket Mine (1845, status: unrecovered): In 1845 the Meek wagon train got lost in eastern Oregon. Children scooped yellow rocks into a blue bucket, later identified as gold nuggets. The location was never relocated despite 175+ years of searching. Where: Eastern Oregon — Wagontire Mountain to Stinkingwater Mountains. Land rules: BLM land permits recreational gold panning on most streams.
